Motorbike trackers could cut insurance costs

There is no doubt that swapping your car for a motorbike can help you save a lot of money on petrol, congestion charges and parking. 

Add to that the fact that bikes are kinder to the environment than cars – thanks to the fact that they emit less pollution – and it’s easy to see why so many consumers are switching to two wheels. 

Keeping your bike safe 

People often talk about riding a motorbike safely, but it is equally important to ensure that it is kept safe while off the road. 

Prevention is better than cure 

Adding alarms and an immobiliser to your motorbike may not only prevent it from being stolen, it could also save you money on your insurance. 

According to, approved security devices could cut your premium by as much as ten per cent. 

The insurance specialist warns that you should not be tempted to fit an alarm yourself. Instead, it suggests you get a qualified technician to carry out the job, or ensure any new bike comes with a device already fitted. 

A motorcycle cable lock or chain lock is a visible deterrent which may put off the opportunist thief. It is important to make sure the device is threaded through the bike frame, rather than around a wheel. It should then be secured to an immovable object such as a lamppost.
