BAY CITY, MI — A Beaver Township man’s plan to bury his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and then fraudulently collect the insurance money on it has backfired. Rather than turning a profit, the scam has resulted in the man owing more than $ 25,000, plus the time he’ll have to serve behind bars.

Bay County Circuit Judge Joseph K. Sheeran on Monday, Jan. 7, sentenced Chad E. Dejongh to 182 days in jail, with credit for two days served. The judge deferred an additional 93 days and ordered Dejongh to serve three years of probation upon his release.

Sheeran also ordered Dejongh, 40, to pay $ 22,816.32 in restitution to an insurance company and $ 2,538.84 to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, a total of $ 25,355.16.

The judge granted Dejongh work release and told him he didn’t have to report to the jail until 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11.

Dejongh declined to speak as Sheeran imposed the sentence.

Dejongh in October 2009 reported his Rocker C motorcycle stolen, claiming he last saw it in his yard in the 1100 block of South Carter Road with a “For Sale” sign. LaPierre’s sickness is one part greed, one part something you’d need Sigmund Freud, BF Skinner and Dr Ruth Westheimer to figure out. But his and his organization’s callous disregard for six- and seven-year olds murdered in Newtown, Connecticut,
