Felton man loses part of leg in motorcycle crash

FELTON — A Highway 9 motorcycle crash last month has left Perry “David” Ralston Jr. of Felton with some major life changes, and his friends and family are rallying around him.

Ralston, 27, was riding a Honda Rebel motorcycle near Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park when a Mazda pickup driver turned left in front of him; they crashed, according to the California Highway Patrol. Ralston flew over a guardrail and suffered a severe right leg injury that required amputation below the knee.

Out of the hospital since Sept. 26, Ralston now must use a walker to get around the house. Simple tasks like reheating food and getting a glass of milk from the refrigerator are arduous, he said.

“A lot of things I used to be able to do now take a lot of effort and planning,” Ralston said Wednesday.

Yet he said he said he appreciates the support he’s received.

“The letters and the ‘get well soon’ cards and the people coming over to visit have been great, and they keep me focused on the whole challenge,” said Ralston. “I’m trying to stay positive about this whole thing.”
