Motorcycle safety for drivers and motorcyclists

The warm summer months mean more motorcycles on the roads and with that there’s the potential for more accidents. So what can drivers and motorcyclists do to make sure they’re safe?

Tamara Townsend says the accident still haunts her because she doesn’t know how that motorcyclist is doing. She says she is now extra careful whenever she’s around a big truck or a motorcycle.

APD says being extra careful is something that can save lives.

Officer Kyle Curtis, with the department’s Traffic Divisions hit the driving course. Something he and others do multiple times a year to freshen up their skills. He says he’s seen it all out there, from the fault being with the driver or with the motorcyclist.

So what can drivers or motorcyclists do to be safe? Well, follow the rules, give yourself distance, go the speed limit, and be aware of what or who’s around you. Simply put, just pay attention.
