Motorcycle Safety: staying safe on the road

EAU CLAIRE, Wis– Spring has finally arrived. Police and instructors say it’s important to take time and review riding safety.

The Eau Claire Police Department and CVTC Motorcycle Safety Program both stress that motorcyclists need to be vigilant on the road and be aware of their surroundings.

The biggest obstacles riders will face on the road this spring are sandy spots on the road and pot holes.

“You can’t crash a motorcycle without being injured maybe it’s just a bruise or a scratch but you are going to be injured,” said Bob Massey CVTC instructor.

Massey has been riding motorcycles for more than 40 years and for the last 18 years he’s taught new motorcyclists the rules of the road.

“The biggest skill they have to master is to be able to look for problems and be able to solve it before it becomes an immediate concern. If you see a deer far enough away it’s not a problem. If you see it too close it’s…………… continues on WEAU

Joint Base Langley to hold motorcycle safety event

Joint Base Langley-Eustis will hold a motorcycle safety awareness day Wednesday conducted by the 497th Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group.

Registration for the event begins at 9 a.m. at the group’s parking lot and will include the basics of motorcycle safety, a bike show, games and competitions, according to a news release.

The event will end with a mentorship ride from Langley to Jamestown Settlement, along U.S. 17 and Colonial Parkway.

Organizers also plan to invite non-riders to help teach motorcycle safety awareness.
